Book to Movie: Me Before You

I absolutely fell in love with JoJo Moyes’ book Me Before You. There was something about the characters of Lou and Will that stuck with me. The way they loved each other felt real and the heartbreak I felt at the end was real. I ugly cried for hours afterward. Heck I still cry when I read the last few pages. Me Before You easily makes my list of favorite books of all time.

That being said, I had a high expectation for the movie.

The movie first of all was well casted. I thought that Emilia Clarke and Sam Clafin were perfect. They played off one another beautifully and I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. The rest of the cast did a wonderful job too. It’s just that I had the most concern about who played Lou and Will.

I will say that the book and movie are not the same. They took out some elements to make the story simply focus on Lou and Will as a couple. I do think that what they took out (not going to spoil it if you didn’t read the book) could have actually helped make them stronger but I’m not going to complain. What they did keep was the wedding scene and the scene with the red dress. Seriously, those moments made me so happy. The images from my mind while reading were put on that screen perfectly.

This was a well done movie. It’s one that I’m so glad that I watched. I’m also glad I had a box of tissues to watch it.
